Personal and Family Wellness (Life 101) is an update from the 1996 resource by the same title.  Personal and Family Wellness is a year long class designed for juniors and seniors who may not be taking other family and consumer science classes, yet they need help and instruction on how to "do life".  This course addresses wellness through information and experiences centered on a wide range of subjects to decrease the stress of living in a complex world.  This course will emphasize individual goal-setting, personal and family decision making, and other topics aligned to a balanced life including setting of life priorities, money and time management, interpersonal relationships, family roles and locating support services. The committee of 5 Family and Consumer Science teachers in Kansas surveyed current high school students to determine what needs they expressed.  We wanted to know what skills and tools they believe they need to manage stress and improve their overall wellness as they transition to adulthood.  We then reviewed the competencies from already existing classes offered in the Family, Community & Human Services pathway.  Topics included reflect the most basic skills students need to ensure wellness in their work, personal and family life.  Special thanks to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for funding a grant to make this resource possible!
